Welding Tractor Unit
Carbines Engineering have produced a cost-effective Welding Tractor. It allows a welding torch to
be programmed to travel with various types of weaves and straight-line welds, giving the
operator the option of joining plates, or hard facing patterns at the flick of a switch.
The system can also be fitted with a cutting touch, enabling it to perform straight line cuts.
The system comprises a carriage, framework for a wire feeder, drive wheels and aluminium track. The carriage has a side linear drive, which carries the welding torch (or cutter). The system supports various wire feeders and uses welding consumables of the customers choosing. Although the system was initially designed for hard facing, it was noted on completion to have advantages over the market established tractors. It was less than half the price, programmable to alternative patterns, easy to operate and made locally with the ability of being easily customised for those special projects. All motors are 3 phase with variable speed drives. This gives the tractor the advantage of little or no maintenance, and the solid state control means no moving parts and finite control.
